Horizon Recruitment has been engaged to conduct a search for the VP, Finance of a prominent Vancouver based investment firm. Our client manages a diverse portfolio, including cutting-edge rental properties and environmentally conscious service businesses. They specialize in alternative investments, creating short-term funds that raise capital from investors and invest in high-potential ventures. These funds offer tax benefits and strong returns. The company's innovative financial solutions and strategic investments make it a dynamic and influential player in the industry. This role is on site full time in a convenient, first-class office location in the downtown core, very close to SkyTrain, buses, retail, restaurants.
Responsibilities:
Investment Business Unit
- Directly handle closings and fundings of flow through funds
- Manage rollover of flow through funds to mutual fund
- Review weekly net asset values (NAVs) calculations of flow through funds
- Annual preparation of tax reporting for flow through funds
- Oversee preparation of year-end financial statements and managing year-end audits
- Prepare financial analyses to support marketing strategies for flow through funds
- Maintaining compliance with securities regulators
- Understanding personal tax implications of investing in flow through shares and ability to communicate with investors
- Communicating with the CRA
- Processing payroll and year end payroll work (T4’s)
Rental Business Unit
- Manage monthly internal management reporting
- Oversee the preparation of year-end consolidated financial statements and manage year-end audits
- Annual budgeting and long-term projections
- Manage relationships with senior bank lenders, provide financial reporting to banks
- Manage a planned corporate restructuring which will reorganize the five properties into two consolidated entities, one with four storage businesses and one with four car wash businesses
- Work closely with operations senior management and provide finance support to achieve operational objectives
- Analyze financial and operational performance of the businesses
- Work with insurance broker on the insurance programs for the properties
- Oversee payroll
- Manage annual tax compliance work (corporate, partnership, trust)
- Assist with investor updates and communications
Requirements:
- Professional accounting designation and credential (CPA)
- 15+ years in senior finance management role
- Dynamic person who thrives in fast moving, entrepreneurial environment where decisions are made quickly
- Experience with bank loans, building relationships with bank lenders, and managing financial reporting, projections, financial covenants
- Experience with offering documents (prospectus, offering memorandum) and working closely with investment bankers, legal counsel, transfer agent, and auditors
- Experience with corporate reorganizations
- Experience in commercial real estate an asset
- Overseeing multiple year end audits
- Experience with intercompany transactions, cash flow management
- Strong Excel skills to analyze financial and operational data and automate accounting processes
- Highly detail oriented while also able to think strategically and see the big picture
- Mindset of continuous process improvement
- Ability to mentor and develop accountants
Remuneration:
- Base salary $180K
