Horizon Recruitment has an immediate requirement for Sr. Accountant - Financial Reporting for a one-year contract to join our clients team in Calgary. Reporting to the Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing accounting expertise and advice to support business initiatives and activities. The incumbent will be proficient in financial reporting and thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support in the preparation and review of journal entries, transactions, analysis and reporting
  • Analyze and evaluate data, preparing data models / forecasts
  • Identify issues and discrepancies 
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to validate information and ensure appropriate reports and packages are prepared in accordance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare and submit financial statements and other information to parent company 
  • Provide actual reporting on business unit performance and initiatives
  • Analyze and report on monthly transactions and journal entries
  • Work with the business to identify accounting/financial analysis and reporting needs 
  • Proactively seek ways to improve the financial reporting function through innovation and technology 
  • Assist the Financial Reporting team with ad hoc projects
  • Provide guidance to junior team members as needed
  • Other special projects as required


Requirements:

  • CPA or CA professional designation is required
  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience with at least 3 years within the oil & gas industry required
  • Advanced reporting and Excel skills are required
  • Experience with Qbyte and SAP systems is preferred
  • Practical experience and understanding of financial reporting requirements
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A highly motivated team player and self-starter who focuses on getting the job done, accurately and completely with the flexibility to meet the demands of an international company
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with all levels in the organization and external customers
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage projects and meet deadlines
