Horizon Recruitment has an immediate need for a Project Cost Controller on a 1-year term employment opportunity with excellent potential for additional extensions or conversion to permanency. Our client is a growing organization with a significant pipeline of projects. The Project Cost Controller will work collaboratively with various teams to carry out cost controls tasks alongside our clients Project Management team. The Project Cost Controller helps with the entire life cycle of the project from project initiation and budgeting to monitoring to close-out. As a Project Cost Controller, you may be dedicated to one or more projects or PMs, or provide one-time, as-needed support to a wide range of projects. The role will also assist in system implementation and continuous improvements within the capital projects.
Responsibilities:
- Support Project Managers in the development of project cost estimate, AFE, work orders, and work breakdown structures, costs coding to accurately set up a project baseline and track project performance.
- Implement project change management processes to track and report project changes and trends supporting proactively managing cost and scope creep.
- Work with project managers and project team to review and forecast project costs monthly.
- Perform monthly cost and schedule variance analysis and reporting and advise leaders on underbudget or overbudget cost in a timely manner and recommending corrective actions.
- Align project cost reporting with the approved annual budget and control budget.
- Assist with updating forecasted estimate to completion and ensuring most current knowledge are registered in the company’s financial monitoring system.
- Assist with monthly capital executive summary analysis.
- Support close-out activities on completed projects.
- Ensure cost controls are in place and effectively implemented to control the cost of the project.
- Participate in meetings to clarify project costs.
- Work with project managers to ensure PO and change orders are processed before executing work, vendor invoices are processed on a timely basis.
- Review project scope change and change order requests for proper justification, schedule impacts, cost coding and adequate budget and funding.
- Assist with invoice detail review and monthly accruals.
- Review existing project controls and systems. Where necessary, propose additional controls.
Requirements:
- 5 years’ experience in project controls, project accounting or similar role related to project costing.
- An awareness and understanding of the fundamentals of project management.
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to follow through on all assigned tasks, meeting deadlines with minimal supervision. Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Possess a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills
- A proactive, self-starter and a highly motivated individual with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Familiarity with the different contracting strategies encountered on EPCM projects in North America
- Knowledge about financial accounting would be an asset
Remuneration:
The salary range for this role is $90 - $100K.
