Just HR is conducting a search for a talented Health & Safety Manager who will lead a close team of safety professionals and serve as a key liaison for operations, maintenance, capital projects, and the unionized workforce. The Health & Safety Manager requires exceptional strategic thinking in developing, implementing, and maintaining the Safety Management System (SMS). Spending time in the field to understand operations, being proactive, and building strong relationships will be crucial for success. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee safety initiatives aligned with companies Strategic Plan.
  • Identify and prioritize risks, and develop initiatives and indicators for risk reduction.
  • Utilize a project mindset to prioritize resource allocation.
  • Promote a culture of HSE excellence throughout the organization, emphasizing integrity and best practices.
  • Collaborate with various departments to understand business requirements while maintaining high safety standards
  • Develop and recommend strategies on the implementation of safety management systems, education and training programs, accident prevention initiatives, industrial hygiene (prevention of exposure), engineering controls, first aid provisions, emergency response, fire safety, accident investigations and injury reporting protocols.
  • Oversee investigation of safety incidents and ensure closure and necessary improvements.
  • Analyze statistical data to verify risk mitigation efforts and improve safety management systems.
  • Participate in the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee and maintain relationships with relevant organizations.
  • Manage case management processes and facilitate safe return to work for injured workers.
  • Oversee contractor safety program during major project execution.
  • Present health and safety updates at leadership meetings and participate in department and board meetings as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and promote excellence through policies and programs.
  • Inspects the worksite and conducts vessel visits, spends time talking to and listening to employees, communicates how initiatives are being received and how determines their effectiveness with the workforce.


Requirements:

  • Minimum of 15 years related experience in heavy industrial settings.
  • Minimum 8 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Registered Safety Professional or post-secondary education in Health and Safety, CRSP or CSP professional designation preferred - an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Ability to foster active participation in safety programs and reduce incidents and injuries.
  • Effective leadership, relationship-building, and employee development skills.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in claims management and incident reporting tools
  • Experience with ISO-based safety management systems.
  • Group facilitation and presentation skills in safety management.
  • Solid understanding and application of Health and Safety Regulations in BC and Canada, including WorkSafe BC Regulations and the Workers Compensation Act.
  • Ability to successfully implement safety management programs and policies in a multi-union environment.


Remuneration:

Our client offers a competitive compensation package with a base range of $120,000-$145,000 and a strong benefits package.
