Horizon Recruitment has been engaged to identify a Controller that will assist our client in the next phase of their growth and development. Our client is experiencing significant growth and requires an individual that can work with the executive team to bring their financial reporting and analysis to new levels. The Controller will develop and maintain accounting procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements and management reports; the development and analyses of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts; the maintenance of accurate costing data; the reporting of key performance metrics; and the completion of ad hoc analysis projects. The Controller must have the capability to think strategically and work closely with operations and production, supplying relevant reporting and recommendations to improve the operating effectiveness.

 Responsibilities:

  • Manage the month end process through collaborative planning with all managers to meet company deliverables
  • Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities of the business
  • Develop, maintain and manage the annual and monthly budgets and holding company accounting records
  • Prepare and deliver a complete, accurate quarter end and year end package for internal and external reporting
  • Implementation of new systems programs (ie. ERP)
  • Liaise and develop good working relationships with financial services, business services, local municipal and provincial and federal government ministry officials
  • Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the corporation may enter
  • Supervise the Finance Team, including design, develop and manage the implementation of measurable goals for direct reports
  • Liaise with external auditors for the quarterly review and annual audit
  • Create and maintain internal controls, documentation and processes
  • Revenue, gross margin, operating expense and foreign exchange analyses, as well as budget to actual reporting and other ad hoc analyses as required
  • Develop and maintain key financial performance metrics
  • Responsible for the forward analysis and planning of financial information to maximize organizational growth and profitability
  • Coordinate the annual budget process, including compiling the annual budget, revenue forecast, budgeted financial statements and supporting analyses
  • Manage the weekly and quarterly revenue and income forecasts and reforecasts
  • Compile, maintain and analyze of monthly cash flow forecasting
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements
  • Comply with local, provincial and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Review accounting processes and recommend changes as needed to support the development of policies and procedures
  • Apply and search for government grants programs
  • Other projects as assigned 

Requirements:

  • 5+ years' of experience in mid to senior level accounting position
  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting/Business or related studies
  • Experience in a manufacturing business is beneficial
  • CPA designation is required
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment, adapt to various situations, and prioritize multiple work assignments simultaneously
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple, and at time competing priorities
  • Ability to collaborate on projects, maintain effective relationships, and communicate clearly at all levels of the business
  • Ability to lead a diverse team and create a positive culture.
