Horizon Recruitment Inc. is currently seeking a Controller, Property & Real Estate to lead and manage the day-to-day activities of the property accounting team for a large, diversified real estate company with operations around the world. This role will focus on the leadership of a strong team with your day spent working on special projects to continuously improve processes.


Responsibilities: 

  • Liaising with property site staff, leasing staff, management, and clients to ensure responsive service from the property accounting team
  • Planning timing and accurate completion of all annual, quarterly, and monthly activities and cycles, including property month ends, annual property budgets, annual tenant operating cost adjustments, and property reporting
  • Preparation and maintenance of all procedural documentation relating to property accounting 
  • Manage staff workloads to ensure fairness, and responsiveness to internal and external clients
  • Providing guidance and direction to the property accounting team; and being responsible for the team’s continuous improvement of departmental processes/procedures
  • Ensuring existing and new staff members receive training for systems and processes/procedures
  • Administering performance evaluations; ensuring the Property Accounting team staff continue to develop and utilize new skills 
  • Assist in staff motivation, celebration and maintaining a positive work environment
  • Identifying and analyzing issues; taking decisive action when required
  • Take on special projects as delegated including process improvements and senior management requests


Requirements:

  • Professional accounting designation
  • 5 to 10 years of real estate accounting experience, including supervision of staff             
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with an ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to allocate one’s time effectively, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines; ability to handle multiple demands and competing priorities; ability to prioritize workload; ability to work at a detailed level;
  • Willingness to learn in a dynamic environment that includes new ideas and change
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems; ability to take decisive action and resolve conflict
