Horizon Recruitment has been engaged to recruit an Assistant Controller to work with the Corporate Controller and VP, Finance of a growing international logistics company. Our client plays an import role in the global supply chain for products that provide important materials in our economy. The Assistant Controller will play a key role on the management team with a significant scope of responsibility including analysis, budgeting, reporting and tax. The Assistant Controller will be an important part of the succession plan for our clients team and will closely with the VP, Finance to prepare Board reports and will assist in presenting to key stakeholders. Responsibilities:

  • Manage the preparation and review of the quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Oversee budgeting and forecasting to ensure operations are supported with the financial insights required to make effective decisions
  • Research IFRS technical accounting issues and prepare accounting memos to analyze and support complex accounting transactions
  • Liaise with external auditors to support year-end audit process 
  • Coordination with banks and general responsibility of the treasury function
  • Leadership of a General Accountant and the AP team
  • Review and prepare month-end deliverables, including balance sheet account reconciliations, financial statements and related variance analysis.
  • Management of cash within bank accounts, coordination with A/P, and banking administration.
  • Ensure financial data integrity and adherence to internal controls
  • Prepare monthly status reports for major projects
  • Support implementation of a new ERP system 

 

Requirements:

  • Professional accounting designation required (CPA) ideally with a background in public practice
  • Experience working with external auditors
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and public company reporting requirements
  • Proficient working with technology and comfortable participating in ERP selection and implementation
  • Strong oral & written communication, results oriented
  • Excellent attention to detail with effective organizational skills and ability to prioritize and problem solve.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with customers, employees and external stakeholders
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Can effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Highly detailed oriented
  • Enjoys fast paced environment

 

Remuneration:

Base salary for this role is $120 – 135K based on experience and capability. There is a 10 – 15% bonus and pension program.
