Senior Financial Analyst

Horizon Recruitment is conducting a search for a Senior Financial Analyst on behalf of our client, a well-established not-for-profit organization managing a range of programs and long-term investments. As the organization continues to grow and diversify its financial activities, this role will provide essential support in both accounting and investment reporting. The position is ideal for a CPA who enjoys both the technical side of accounting and the strategic side of investments. You take ownership of your work, communicate clearly, and thrive in a role where accuracy and insight both matter. You’re looking for a long-term opportunity in a stable, purpose-driven environment where your contributions directly support sound financial stewardship. About two-thirds of the role focuses on accounting and reporting, while the remaining one-third centers on investment oversight, cash flow management, and coordination with external advisors.

Responsibilities

Accounting and Reporting

  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Support month-end and year-end close, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts across multiple business areas.
  • Review and verify work prepared by finance officers for accuracy and compliance.
  • Improve documentation and contribute to the transition from paper-based to digital accounting processes.

Investments and Cash Management

  • Coordinate with the organization’s external investment advisors to execute committee-approved rebalancing and investment decisions.
  • Track and record investment activity across multiple managers covering equities, bonds, real estate, private equity, infrastructure, and mortgage assets.
  • Record and reconcile capital calls, distributions, and dividend reinvestment plans.
  • Maintain investment schedules and ensure accurate accounting for fair values and income.
  • Monitor short-term cash positions and help optimize returns through high-interest savings or GIC placements.
  • Work with banking partners to streamline account structures and reduce manual fund transfers.
  • Prepare clear and concise investment and cash reporting for management and board review.

Requirements

  • CPA designation or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and reporting experience.
  • Solid understanding of investment and treasury concepts such as capital calls, distributions, and DRIPs.
  • Strong Excel and financial systems skills.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Comfortable working independently in a small, collaborative finance team.
  • Interest in improving financial processes and reporting efficiency.

Remuneration

Salary: $90,000 – $100,000 annually.

Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package.

Work Model: Primarily in office ( 3–4 days per week - flexible based on workflow).

Only candidates eligible to work in Canada will be considered
