Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Senior Corporate Accountant to join the Corporate Finance team of a large, publicly traded organization with a complex portfolio of businesses across Canada and the United States. This is a newly created role that will strengthen the corporate accounting team as the organization continues to grow. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Accounting, you will have meaningful exposure to global intercompany accounting, consolidation, and the quarterly and annual external reporting cycle.
This opportunity is well suited to an accountant who enjoys understanding how a complex business fits together rather than simply following an established process. The team is continuing to improve its systems and reporting practices, so you will have opportunities to solve problems, improve processes, and help shape how work gets done.
There is also a clear, merit-based path toward an Accounting Manager position as you demonstrate the ability to take on greater ownership and leadership.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of key period-end close activities, including journal entry review and general ledger reconciliations.
- Lead the reconciliation of global intercompany balances, including loans, investments, and cost reimbursements.
- Support quarterly and annual consolidation activities across a complex group of operating companies.
- Contribute to the preparation of external financial statements, MD&A, and quarter-end working papers.
- Review financial and operating results across a diverse portfolio of businesses and identify items requiring further analysis.
- Investigate accounting and reporting issues and work with stakeholders to reach practical solutions.
- Mentor junior accounting staff and help strengthen the quality and consistency of close activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, reporting quality, and turnaround times.
- Contribute to accounting system, consolidation, and process improvement projects.
- Work effectively with both automated and manual processes as the finance team's systems continue to evolve.
- Build an understanding of the organization's businesses, operating structure, and long-term priorities to support more meaningful financial analysis.
- Support additional corporate accounting initiatives as the needs of the business evolve.
Requirements
- University degree and at least 4 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
- Experience working within a complex, multi-entity organization. Public company or multi-subsidiary experience is strongly preferred.
- Practical experience using ERP, consolidation, reporting, and productivity tools.
- Comfortable working with processes that are not fully automated and using sound judgment when information or requirements change.
- Demonstrated success identifying and implementing meaningful process improvements.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate financial and operational results and identify key business issues.
- Able to provide specific examples of problems solved, processes improved, or results achieved through your own work.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Able to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative finance team.
- Curious, adaptable, and comfortable working through changing requirements rather than relying on a fixed playbook.
- High ethical standards and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Remuneration
- Base salary is expected to be approximately $90,000-$95,000, depending on experience and qualifications, with benefits.
- The position is based at the organization's Richmond, BC head office. The current policy provides an option to work from home, subject to company policy and management discretion.
Only candidates eligible to work in Canada will be considered
