Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Senior Accountant on behalf of a growing food manufacturing organization. This role is designed to strengthen the company's financial reporting and operational accounting capabilities while supporting continued growth across the business. Reporting to the Controller, the successful candidate will play an important role in delivering accurate financial information, analyzing manufacturing performance, managing inventory accounting, and providing insights that help drive better business decisions. This is an opportunity to contribute beyond traditional accounting functions and work closely with operations and supply chain teams to improve performance and processes.
Responsibilities
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Assist in the preparation of internal financial statements and management reporting packages
- Analyze manufacturing costs, production variances, inventory movements, and overhead allocations
- Monitor inventory transactions and support cycle counts and physical inventory processes
- Partner with operations and supply chain teams to improve reporting accuracy and financial visibility
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis activities
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support operational and strategic decision-making
- Support external audit requirements and maintain compliance with accounting policies and internal controls
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve processes, controls, and reporting capabilities
- Participate in special projects and ad hoc analysis as required
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA is considered an asset
- Minimum 4 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience within manufacturing, food production, consumer products, or a similar operational environment preferred
- Strong knowledge of inventory accounting, cost accounting, and financial reporting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience working with ERP systems
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and business partnering skills
- Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to identifying improvements
- Comfortable working in a hands-on and evolving business environment
