Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of a national financial services firm and its affiliated entities. This role plays a key part in maintaining regulatory compliance, preparing accurate financial reports, and strengthening the company’s financial control environment. It’s an opportunity to build deep knowledge of the financial services industry while contributing to continuous improvement in financial processes and systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals and intercompany transactions
• Complete month-end and year-end close activities and reconcile key accounts
• Analyze financial statements and management reports to identify trends and variances
• Prepare regulatory filings, including Form 1, capital adequacy, and compliance reports
• Support audit and tax processes with working papers and responses to inquiries
• Collaborate with internal teams on cost allocations and deal-related accounting
• Maintain records for commissions, receivables, deferred revenue, and prepaid assets
• Assist in calculating bonus pools and preparing supporting documentation
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities
• Support system upgrades and work with IT to enhance reporting accuracy
• Ensure adherence to IFRS and applicable regulatory standards

Requirements

• CPA designation with a degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• At least 4 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in financial services
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and experience with financial reporting and compliance
• Proficient in Excel and financial systems; ERP experience is an asset
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Experience with regulatory bodies such as CIRO and FINRA is an asset
• Knowledge of self-clearing investment brokerages is an asset

Remuneration

$85,000-$105,000 Base + Bonus
