Project Controller

Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Project Controller to join a well-established media production services company based in Vancouver. This role has opened due to a planned retirement in May, and they want someone to join while there is still some overlap.


This role is titles as a Project Controller due to the based nature of the role; however, it is still a mix of project and corporate accounting. Each project is fast-moving, tightly budgeted, and highly detailed. With 25 to 30 productions per year, the business requires a trusted financial leader who can manage both corporate accounting and project-based production reconciliations.


Responsibilities:

  • Own full-cycle corporate and project accounting from start to finish
  • Oversee production cost tracking, reconciliations, and wrap reporting
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and vendor payments
  • Review and reconcile multiple bank and credit card accounts
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor working capital
  • File GST returns, payroll remittances, and other statutory filings
  • Oversee payroll processing and maintain accurate compensation records
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and internal management reports
  • Support year-end processes and liaise with external accountants for compilation financial statements
  • Communicate with CRA, banks, and other financial partners as required
  • Strengthen internal controls and segregate duties to protect company assets
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and efficiency
  • Provide financial insights to support leadership with business decisions

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong background in project-based or operational accounting
  • Experience in industries such as film production, construction, or other project-driven environments is preferred
  • Hands-on experience with full-cycle accounting and financial statement preparation
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Enterprise - required
  • Strong Excel skills including reporting and reconciliation tools
  • Experience managing high transaction volumes with tight turnaround timelines
  • Knowledge of GST, payroll, and corporate compliance requirements
  • Proven ability to work independently in a small company environment
  • High level of integrity and strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable being both strategic and hands-on

Remuneration:

  • $140,000 to $160,000 per year based on experience.
  • Generous vacation package.
