Fund Accountant

Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Fund Accountant to join a growing fund operations team based in Burnaby, BC. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timely delivery of fund accounting information that supports investment decision-making and client reporting.


Working closely with portfolio managers, traders, fund administrators, and other stakeholders, the successful candidate will help maintain the operational excellence of a sophisticated investment platform. This position offers exposure to a broad range of fund operations activities, along with opportunities to contribute to process improvements, support new product launches, and develop expertise in specialized areas such as financial reporting, taxation, and corporate actions.


Responsibilities

  • Perform key fund accounting activities including fund valuations, security pricing, reconciliations, and fee processing.
  • Calculate and validate net asset values (NAVs) while ensuring the accuracy and completeness of fund data.
  • Prepare and review fund accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of annual and semi-annual financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with external fund administrators and custodians to resolve discrepancies and maintain accurate records.
  • Provide timely and accurate fund information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Investigate and respond to accounting and fund-related inquiries.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational processes and controls.
  • Lead or support projects focused on process enhancements, automation initiatives, and new investment product launches.
  • Partner with technology teams to develop tools that improve efficiency, accuracy, and risk management.
  • Build a strong understanding of fund structures, investment operations, and industry practices.

Requirements

  • CPA designation completed or equivalent advanced accounting qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in public practice with audit or tax exposure, or comparable industry experience.
  • Big 4 accounting firm experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong accounting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing financial statements.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
  • Interest in the investment management or financial services industry.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

Remuneration

  • Base salary ranging from $90,000 to $115,000 annually.
