Horizon Recruitment is supporting a mid-sized private organization undergoing operational transition and financial restructuring. Our client is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Controller to lead the re-establishment of core accounting systems and restore confidence in financial reporting. The company is emerging from a complex period involving system and leadership changes, and this role will play a key part in stabilizing and modernizing finance operations.
This is a six-month contract position with strong potential to convert to a permanent leadership role.
Responsibilities:
- Assess the current accounting environment and rebuild foundational systems and processes
- Deliver timely, accurate monthly financial statements and department-level reporting
- Reconstruct and manage a clean chart of accounts using Sage 50 (with legacy data from Sage 300)
- Oversee cash management, compliance, and internal controls
- Collaborate with operational managers to support budget planning and forecasting
- Serve as a key business partner to executive leadership and ownership
- Prepare the organization for future systems upgrades and business planning cycles
Requirements:
- Significant experience as a hands-on Controller or Senior Finance Manager in a change-oriented environment
- Strong technical accounting skills and familiarity with small-to-mid market accounting systems
- Proven ability to operate in environments with limited structure and incomplete historical data
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with senior leadership and cross-functional teams
- Hospitality or multi-site experience is an asset but not required
Remuneration:
- $60–$70/hour contract (approx. $120K–$135K annualized equivalent)
- 6-month term with strong potential to convert to a permanent salaried role with bonus
