Construction Contract Manager, Claims

Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Contract Manager, Claims to support a major capital infrastructure program in BC. This senior contract role will provide expert support on complex construction claims, schedule impacts, commercial risks, and dispute resolution. The successful candidate will work closely with project, construction, contracts, project controls, and legal teams to assess claims and resolve contract issues before they create larger cost or schedule impacts. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior claims or commercial professional with significant experience on major construction, infrastructure, utilities, or other large capital projects.


Responsibilities

  • Evaluate construction claims, contract changes, and delay events to determine entitlement, schedule impacts, and cost implications.
  • Review baseline, updated, and progress schedules to identify delays, critical path impacts, schedule risks, and contract compliance.
  • Perform schedule and delay analyses using recognized industry methodologies.
  • Review project records, correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, and other documentation to build well-supported claim assessments.
  • Advise project teams on entitlement, schedule impacts, quantum, commercial exposure, and dispute resolution options.
  • Prepare clear claim assessments, recommendations, negotiation strategies, and management reports.
  • Support negotiations, mediations, adjudications, and other dispute resolution activities.
  • Work with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Contract Managers, Project Controls, Legal, and other stakeholders to resolve contract issues.
  • Monitor claims exposure and identify emerging schedule and commercial risks.
  • Help project teams manage contractual requirements related to notices, changes, delays, compensation, and claims.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external consultants on complex claims and contract matters.
  • Support the development and improvement of claims management processes and practices.
  • Share knowledge with project teams to strengthen claims avoidance, contract administration, and schedule risk management.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Law, Quantity Surveying, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in contract management, commercial management, project controls, claims management, or a related discipline, preferably supporting major construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating construction claims, schedule impacts, entitlement, and dispute resolution matters.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts and provisions covering notices, changes, delays, compensation, and claims.
  • Working knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling and recognized delay analysis methodologies.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing complex project schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop clear, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to prepare professional reports and clearly communicate complex claims and commercial issues to management and project teams.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Relevant professional certification or designation in project management, supply chain, construction, quantity surveying, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Strong professional written and spoken English.

Remuneration

  • Competitive contract compensation with a maximum bill rate of $75/hour.
  • Hybrid work environment
