Category Manager

Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for an Experienced Category Manager to support a global mining organization with responsibility for heavy mobile equipment and strategic supplier management across major operating sites. This role is focused on maintaining supply continuity, improving category performance, and strengthening supplier partnerships across a complex operational environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing procurement strategies, contract performance, and vendor relationships for critical equipment and services. Initially a 12 month contract term, this position is ideal for someone who combines strong commercial acumen with the ability to work closely with operational stakeholders.


Responsibilities

  • Lead sourcing and category management activities for heavy equipment and related services
  • Develop and execute sourcing, inventory, and supplier management strategies aligned with operational goals
  • Manage global tendering and RFP processes for equipment, technical services, and operational contracts
  • Negotiate commercial agreements and long-term supplier contracts
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to support cost control, service reliability, and operational performance
  • Partner with site operations, maintenance, and asset management teams to support business objectives
  • Monitor supplier performance, identify risks, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support contract management activities, including issue resolution and escalation management
  • Analyze market trends, supplier capabilities, and category opportunities to improve procurement outcomes
  • Ensure procurement activities align with governance standards and internal policies
  • Contribute to process improvement and documentation initiatives within the supply chain function
  • Present recommendations and category insights to senior leadership and key stakeholders

Requirements

  • 5+ years of procurement, sourcing, or category management experience within a large industrial environment
  • Proven ability to manage category strategies and strategic sourcing initiatives
  • Experience managing heavy equipment, technical services, EPC, construction, or operational service categories
  • Strong contract negotiation and supplier management experience
  • Exposure to mining, oil & gas, civil construction, or other asset-intensive industries preferred
  • Ability to manage complex workloads and competing priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively with operational teams
  • Experience developing or supporting category strategies and procurement improvement initiatives
  • Proficiency with enterprise procurement systems
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and presentation skills
  • Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field
  • SCMP, MBA, or related advanced designation considered an asset
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada

Remuneration

  • $90/hr target rate
  • Remote / Work from home with occasional site visits.
