Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for an Assistant Manager, Accounting to support a growing portfolio of public and private company clients. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys balancing technical accounting work with team collaboration and client support. The successful candidate will help ensure accurate financial reporting, smooth month-end processes, and reliable support across multiple client engagements while contributing to process improvements and team development.
Responsibilities
- Support semi-monthly payment and payroll processes, including payment reviews and annual payroll tax filings
- Prepare and review month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting activities for a portfolio of clients
- Manage reconciliations for accounts payable, receivables, accruals, prepaids, and other balance sheet accounts
- Assist with consolidation entries and intercompany reconciliations
- Prepare or review GST and PST filings
- Review monthly bank reconciliations and month-end journal entries
- Prepare draft financial statements and MD&A packages
- Coordinate quarterly review and annual audit support documentation
- Assist with the preparation and coordination of annual tax filings
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff and bookkeepers
- Prepare financial summaries and budget-to-actual reporting
- Help improve and document accounting processes and procedures
- Respond to internal accounting inquiries and support cross-functional collaboration
- Contribute to special projects and process improvement initiatives as needed
Requirements
- CPA designation, or equivalent professional accounting designation
- 1-3 years of experience in a similar accounting role
- Experience working with Canadian public companies
- Strong understanding of financial reporting and full-cycle accounting
- Experience supporting audits, tax filings, and month-end close processes
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and within a team environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable asking questions and learning new processes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Remuneration
- Salary range of $80,000 - $90,000 depending on experience
- Full-time hybrid role with a minimum of 3 in-office days per week
