Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for an Assistant Controller to support the financial reporting, operational accounting, and compliance activities of a portfolio of U.S. entities. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this role helps ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and effective collaboration across international accounting teams. This position will also contribute to process improvements, audit readiness, and the development of accounting staff while supporting key business decisions with timely financial insights.
Responsibilities:
- Support the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for multiple U.S. entities.
- Lead key aspects of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and variance analysis.
- Assist with consolidated reporting and oversight of multiple legal entities.
- Prepare and submit reporting packages and templates required by the parent organization.
- Partner with internal teams and external service providers to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
- Coordinate year-end audit activities and act as a key contact for external auditors.
- Support cash flow monitoring, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
- Review and strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, and financial policies.
- Contribute to system implementations, automation initiatives, and continuous improvement projects.
- Research accounting matters and prepare technical accounting documentation as needed.
- Support U.S. tax compliance and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a small corporate accounting team.
- Collaborate with finance and operational stakeholders across Canada, Europe, Asia, and the United States.
- Deliver financial analysis and special projects to support senior leadership.
Requirements:
- CPA designation required.
- 5+ years of progressive corporate accounting experience.
- Minimum 2 years of leadership or people management experience.
- Experience within a multinational organization preferred.
- Previous public practice experience is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of IFRS.
- Experience with consolidations, including varying ownership structures and foreign currency translation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
- Experience with Yardi, Elevate, Concur, or AI-enabled tools is an asset.
- Real estate operations or fund accounting experience is considered an asset.
Remuneration:
- $100,000 - $130,000 Base Salary
