Accounting Supervisor & Payroll

Horizon Recruitment Inc. is searching for a hands-on Accounting Supervisor & Payroll professional to join a mission-driven non-profit organization on a 6-month contract. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong payroll and accounting skills who can step into a dynamic environment and make an immediate impact.


The successful candidate will take the lead on payroll operations and support a range of accounting duties including month-end accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role also provides and contributes to important reporting for grants, donations, and capital contributions.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage biweekly payroll processing in a unionized environment, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Maintain and record payroll-related accruals such as vacation and other monthly provisions
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, including entries, tracking, and reconciliations
  • Record and reconcile deferred capital contributions and deferred revenue
  • Prepare and post journal entries for balance sheet and revenue reconciliations
  • Support grant reporting by providing accurate financial data and documentation
  • Reconcile donation receipts and ensure proper financial recording
  • Perform balance sheet account reconciliations on a monthly basis
  • Assist with month-end close and ensure timely financial reporting
  • Provide supervision and support to accounting or administrative staff as needed
  • Work in-office 2–3 days per week, with flexibility depending on workload and meetings

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a non-profit or public sector environment
  • Demonstrated payroll experience in a unionized setting is required
  • Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and related compliance
  • Proficiency in accounting and payroll software (e.g. Sage, ADP, QuickBooks, Ceridian)
  • Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities
  • Familiarity with fixed assets, deferred contributions, and grant/donation reporting
  • PCP or CPA designation is considered a strong asset
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and communication skills
  • Available to start immediately and comfortable in a fast-paced, values-driven organization

Rewards:

  • $40/hr - $50/hr
