Horizon Recruitment Inc is conducting a search for a temporary Senior Accountant to work with an energy services company in Calgary. Our client is a leading, publicly listed energy services company seeking year-end and project support starting in March on a 3 contract. Reporting to the Operations Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for the accounting functions of a stable, growth focused division. These functions include maintaining an organization's accounting principles, practices, and procedures. The position oversees the preparation and evaluation of financial operating reports, and presents findings and recommendations.

You will need extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, perform a variety of tasks and lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Senior Accountant will perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Oversees division accounting functions including ensuring month-end accounting processes are followed and results comply with the company’s accounting policies
  • Conducts analytical review of business unit performance and results to budget, for monthly management reporting, forecasting, accruals and actual
  • Review all weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting for accuracy
  • Provide leadership and work direction to Junior accountant
  • Improve performance and assure management success by training, coaching, motivating and evaluating direct reports
  • Review and analyze business unit cash forecasting
  • Analyze and forecast fleet additions and disposals
  • Oversees monthly sales commission for Sales Team
  • Supervise partnership audits as required by stakeholders which includes inter-company, interdivisional and Joint Venture elimination processes
  • Support regional leads and VP’s in preparing budget & forecasts
  • Support OAAM in all accounting, tax, treasury and controls related issues
  • Exercises professional judgment to strike the right balance between the business objectives of the division and the company’s requirements under GAAP
  • Assist in performing ad hoc analysis for internal reporting purposes
  • Liaise with and support Corporate Financial Reporting in preparation of external financial statements and MD&A
  • Liaise with Corporate Accounting and external auditors for business unit audit requests
  • Compile and review IFRS research as required
  • Revenue recognition research and memo writing
  • Ensuring proper adherence to all administrative and operational processes, procedures and policies in relation to assets
  • Provide feedback to effectively design preventative and detective controls to aid in the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements. Regularly offers process improvement ideas, shares best practices and facilitates standardization among divisions

Qualifications:

  • Completed a professional accounting designation
  • 5+ years’ experience in accounting or an accounting related role is necessary
  • Computer literate including an understanding of accounting programs and Microsoft applications
  • Experience in managing, leading and interacting with staff
  • Advanced excel knowledge
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, capable of professional interaction with various levels of operations and other departments
  • Works well under pressure with multiple concurrent deadlines
  • Excellent analytical skills and takes initiatives to solve problems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be fluent in English both oral and written
