Horizon Recruitment is recruiting a Payroll & Benefits Specialist for a leading edge technology company with an impressive suite of products and services. This Payroll & Benefits Specialist role is for an individual who is a creative solutions oriented individual with an ability to find solutions in a fast paced, fast changing environment. No two days will be the same and to succeed candidates need to be able to reach out, research and retain information in a dynamic environment. Knowledge of how to connect, collaborate and communicate in a setting supported by technology tools such as Google Hangouts and Slack are important. You understand that technology companies move fast and that leaders need accurate and timely data to inform decision making.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Process Bi-weekly and off cycle payroll for both Canadian and US employees (different pay schedules)
  • Ensure taxable benefits are in compliance with company policies as well as regulatory requirements
  • Book payroll and benefits related journal entries, including cost allocations and payroll accruals
  • Reconcile Salaries, Benefits, RRSP and 401(k), Employer Health Taxes, as well as WCB general ledgers
  • File and remit WCB, EHT, US tax filing, RRSP and 401(k) on a timely basis
  • Issue T4, T4A, 1099, T2200, W2 and other tax forms per legislative requirements
  • Reconcile benefits invoices on a monthly basis
  • Request and review ROE issued by the payroll service provider
  • Analysis and implementation of potential taxable benefits for payroll implications
  • Administer crypto token grants and stock options vesting and delivery by providing calculations of withholdings, updating payroll system, and verifying legislative remittance for both employees and contractors
  • Update various tracking sheets related to tokens and equity
  • Assist with IDMTC, SRED, and other Government subsidies applications and potential audits by providing customized payroll reports
  • Answer payroll inquiries from internal and external parties


Requirements:

  • Designated payroll professional with 3+ years of full-cycle progressive payroll experience, including strong knowledge of Canadian and US payroll and benefits
  • Ability to research & deal with payroll changes and compliance issues with minimal guidance
  • Demonstrated success in environments that require managing ambiguity and multiple deadlines among various stakeholders and can quickly adapt to changing priorities
  • Excited about emerging technology like blockchain, SaaS, mobile apps, AI, and machine learning
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly in Excel), and Google Suite while also being able to quickly learn new software
  • You understand and have demonstrated accuracy, great attention to detail, and confidentiality
  • Flexible and willing to go that extra mile to gain more knowledge and experience
