Horizon Recruitment is seeking a Manager, Property Accounting who will report to the Controller of a skilled and growing property accounting group. The Manager will provide financial and technological leadership for current and new staff including training on new systems, tools and processes while incorporating high-level thinking and analysis within the group.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and manage the day-to-day activities of Property Accounting team including leading, planning, monitoring, and communicating any issues that require management input
- Responsible for ensuring existing and new employees receive appropriate level of training for systems and procedures including monthly and annual activities
- Responsible for the performance management, and continuous training and improvement to ensure the team continues to grow and master new skills required for the role
- Develop technical, analytical, and communication skills of Property Accounting team through targeted and focused review of monthly and annual files while providing meaningful feedback for improvement feedback
- Plan timing and completion of annual and monthly activities including annual budgets, annual audits, annual operating cost recovery adjustments, annual property taxes, monthly cut-off schedules, and monthly reporting
- Monitor annual and monthly cycles to ensure completion and quality of desired results in accordance with deadlines
- Responsible for timely and accurate completion of annual activities such as property budgets, final operating cost recovery adjustments, annual property taxes, and property audits
- Responsible for timely completion of monthly activities, free of material misstatements, and incorporating high-level thinking and analysis within the group
- Review of monthly and annual property accounting activities to ensure that desired results are achieved according to deadlines, IFRS, and owner policies/requirements
- Liaise with property site staff, leasing staff, other functional groups across the country to ensure they are receiving responsive service and advice as necessary
- New property set up, analysis, and follow up of outstanding issues as required
- Property sales/turnover – final operating statements, funds distribution, GST reconciliation, closing of bank accounts, and any other relevant closing duties
- Full understanding of all property specific processes and upkeep of pertinent information relating to specific properties
- Input / feedback for improving procedures and initiating quality and efficiency enhancements
- Take on special projects as assigned including process improvements and senior management requests
Requirements
- Qualified professional accounting designation (CPA)
- Minimum 5 years of commercial/retail property accounting, including managing a team of direct reports
- Strong ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written
- Proven people management experience with an ability to build, develop, and sustain cooperative working relationships; passionate about growing leadership capabilities in others
- Organized, and can work under pressure to meet tight deadlines; ability to handle multiple demands and competing priorities
- Natural ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems; action orientated and can make decisions quickly
- Intermediate to advanced Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office programs; knowledge of Yardi is an asset
