Horizon Recruitment has been retained to recruit a seasoned General Manager for the Canadian Division of an international manufacturer of high quality hydraulic hose and fittings. Our client has a rich history dating back 50+ years and boasts some of the largest OEM's as their clients (Caterpillar, John Deere, Case, Volvo and Kubota). Our client services the oil, gas, agriculture, forestry, mining, fishing, transportation, construction and manufacturing sectors.


The General Manager directs manufacturing operations by establishing a functional team of skilled workers. This position is tasked with increasing levels of customer and employee satisfaction while improving the efficiency of manpower, materials, and machines. The position is further responsible for analyzing and recommending market opportunities and initiatives that will advance revenues.


This position manages and directs the Canadian team in financial, administration, IT/ERP, operational, sales, engineering, quality, purchasing, manufacturing, and human resources. This role is responsible for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of direct reports and for carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.


Responsibilities:

  • Be accountable for the company's functional direction and operational assessment.
    • Provide the International President with sufficient and up-to-date information.
    • Support and promote the development and implementation of continuous improvement goals.
  • Oversee the development of personnel in all positions.
  • Ensure that organizational plans are in conformance with the policies, and predetermined goals and objectives, and inspire and provide guidance to all levels of the organization for continuous improvement in both performance and communication.
  • Oversee fiscal activities of the accounting management including budgeting, developing cost and profit analysis.
  • Manage policy development in the areas of lean manufacturing techniques, equipment, processes, quality, cost reduction, complete and on-time delivery, safety, customer satisfaction, employee relations, visual controls, and plant performance measures.
  • Provide leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training and development.
  • Provide leadership for problem resolution.
  • Ensure that appropriate personnel are managing material requirements to increase inventory turns and reduce levels on hand.
  • Provide guidance for determining head count needs and compliance with Company policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure the Company is compliant with labor laws and tax requirements.
  • Study and manage supply chain, including development of new suppliers. 
  • Study opportunities in other parts of Canada.
  • Report and recommend continuous improvement initiatives to the International President.

 Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain and Logistics Management, or Cost Accounting is preferred. 
  • 5-8 years of business experience in manufacturing. 
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and Quality is highly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including writing skills.
  • Strong computer and Microsoft Office skills (i.e., Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Advanced accounting skills and excellent math skills
  • Must be self-motivated and work well with little or no supervision.
  • Excellent people skills and ability to communicate effectively and efficiently.
  • Work well under time constraints and pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Must show self-confidence and have the ability to speak in front of large groups, including top level management.
  • Must be able to travel internationally.
  • Ethical business practice.
  • Must be able to navigate complexities of cross-cultural environment.
  • Must possess valid Passport that allows travel in and out of Canada.

This position will be required to travel internationally, including other corporate locations and/or customers, potential customers, suppliers, potential suppliers trade shows, etc. Frequency of travel will be determined by the needs of the business.
