Just HR is recruiting for a Construction Health & Safety Representative to join the Health & Safety team of our large scale construction client based in Vancouver. This role is critical to ensuring the safety and well-being of workers and maintaining a culture of safety across complex construction sites with high-rise cranes, heavy equipment, and multiple trades. The ideal candidate will proactively identify risks, enforce safety measures, and foster a safe work environment through training, inspections, and emergency preparedness.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and Enhance Safety Programs: Monitor safety practices, keep certifications current, and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
- Incident Management: Investigate safety incidents, manage safety records, and recommend improvements to reduce risks and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Safety Training and Orientation: Deliver worker and subcontractor safety orientations, conduct training sessions, and ensure all personnel understand and comply with safety protocols.
- On-Site Safety Inspections: Perform regular hazard assessments, safety inspections, and audits of equipment and tools to ensure they meet safety standards.
- Emergency Preparedness and Response: Lead emergency response planning, manage First Aid resources, and act as the first point of contact in case of incidents.
- Collaborate and Influence: Work closely with site management and workers to promote safe practices, provide coaching, and facilitate a culture of safety awareness.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, adaptability, and a commitment to fostering a safe and compliant work environment.
- Experience and Accreditation:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a safety role within residential, commercial, institutional, or industrial construction settings.
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification or equivalent accreditation.
- Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 3 -Transportion endorsement is preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of Provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
- Familiarity with safety training programs, including WHMIS, CSTS, Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform, and Confined Space Entry.
- Proficiency in accident prevention, cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to influence and lead safety initiatives.
- Effective organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
- Capacity to coach, mentor, and foster a safety-first culture.
- Education:
- A post-secondary diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is considered an asset.
Compensation:
$90,000 - $110,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
